Grammy Nominee FRANKYE KELLY

Main Street Station, 16280 Main Street
Russian River

Price: Tips Are Appreciated
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND FRANKYE KELLY There are many fine jazz singers based in the San Francisco Bay area but, Frankye Kelly ranks at the top. She has a wide range, both in notes and in expressive qualities, is a fine improviser and can really swing. Ms Kelly sings a wide range of standards plus the blues "Next Time You See Me" and Basia's " Astrud". There are times, particularly on "Midnight Sun" and a playful "Satin Doll", when she sounds a bit like Sarah Vaughan. But in general Frankye Kelly displays an original style that is based in the tradition. Frankye Kelly puts a lot of honest feeling into her singing. "I interpret the songs that have the most meaning to me. I have a wide range and I can sound like any horn but I feel that the voice is its own instrument. I love to be one of the instruments in my band, singing from my heart." Kelly earned Best Jazz Vocal Album, Best New Artist and Album of the Year in the 2002 Grammy Awards Entry List for "My Life, More Than It Is-Not Just The Blues". Kellys alformed in the Bay Area are Yoshi's, "Top of the Mark" at the Mark Hopkins hotel (with pop superstar Ricardo Scales), Jazz at Pearl's, Kimball's East, Kimball's West and at the Ritz Carlton Hotels in Half Moon Bay and San Francisco. She has sung at many jazz festivals including the San Francisco Jazz Festival, the San Jose Jazz Festival and the Fillmore Jazz Festival. In addition, she has performed in France, Mexico Japan and China. www.frankyekelly.com

Music enthusiasts from San Francisco to Paris all agree that Wendy is the personification of The Queen of Boogie Woogie, a title she richly deserves. Her musical style has been formed from the influences of Otis Spann, Memphis Slim, Sunnyland Slim and Albert Ammons- the most respected names in boogie woogie and blues. Her music evolved further from sharing the stage with the greatest of contemporary artists such as Steve Freund, Otis Rush, and the late, great Hank Ballard, whose love of the blues defined his unique rock classics. Wendy has also been featured in performances with blues greats Charlie Musselwhite, Otis Rush and Jimmy Thackery, and has claimed her rightful place next to these seminal blues artists. Some of the many venues Wendy has performed at include Berkeleys famous Freight and Salvage, the Arches Stage at the Cincinnati Blues Fest, and her historic appearances with Hank Ballard and the Midnighters with the Boston Symphony; as well as playing to a sold-out house at the San Diego M

Grammy Nominee VERNELLE ANDERS
Sat, June 29, 8:00 pm - 11:30 pm
Main Street Station, 16280 Main Street
Russian River

After working for many years on the West Coast, Hawaii and Alaska performing with many greats and well known musicians she has developed her soulful style that allows you to feel the meaning of each and every song. Vernelle's choice of material show the subtleties and dynamics of her voice. Her creative ability to sing a torch song like "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry" as well as her own swinging arrangement of the old R&B pop hit "Respect" is the perfect example of her dynamic versatility. CD "AT LAST!" www.vernelleanders.com Vernelle Anders is no newcomer to the vocal scene, having performed for years in Alaska, Hawaii, and at various West Coast venues. Her earthy vocalizing reflects the years of working in a variety of settings at a variety of locales. There's no cloying hand wringing, but a sense of "I've been there and done that" in what she sings. Although the musical list leans heavily on standards, Anders is comfortable with several stylistic dressings such as the classic "Neither One oose with a bubbly "It Might as Well Be Spring" with good solo work by the laid-back piano of Wayne De La Cruz. A rocking "Let the Good Times Roll" features the honking alto of Yolonda Nickell. Among the gaggle of first-rate tracks on this album is as touching a version of "Guess I'll Hang My Tears out to Dry" as one will encounter. She wrings every emotion inherent in te lyrics without becoming maudlin. There's nothing rushed, with creative vocal dynamics combining with faultless phrasing. She is well served throughout the session by a group of fine musicians who have room to display their jazz wares. Especially riveting is Jess Petty's flugelhorn on "A House Is Not a Home."
